Rene Furterer Event October 2010

We kick-started Fall with a launch of our new product line, Rene Furterer. The turn-out Sunday was great-- a warm thank you to all who attended.

Sarah's Good Deed

Anthony's Tip for Sun-Stressed Hair

For sun-stressed hair use Redken Real Control shampoo and conditioner. Try shampooing your hair every other day, however you can condition daily. Once a week use Redken Intense Renewal Mask in place of your conditioner. Leave on your hair for 15-20 minutes and wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel. Your hair will now be shiny and full of luster!

Kelly's Tip of the Week

So you want BIG hair?
First, start out with a root booster (or any kind of plumping spray or cream,) then flip your hair upside down and blow dry. Make sure to get it mostly dry. With a round brush, start at the roots, lift, hold for a few moments, and continue through the ends. Do this all around your head. When done, finish off with some (or if you're like me, a lot) of hairspray!

Now your hair should be larger than life!

Shea's Tip of the Week

In these particularly hot and humid summer months, taming the frizz for those of us blessed with unruly hair can be a challenge. To define your curls and keep the frizz at bay, I suggest using a silicone based styling product.

Another tip I strongly advise is to control yourself from running your fingers through your locks; this is one case where less is definitely more. Constant touching not only increases the frizz but results in a loss of curl definition.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting and greeting hotel concierges all around Boston. Varying from Charlesview Suites to the Taj and many more, the 7th Annual Concierge Event was surely a hit.

Along with meeting 70+ concierges, we engaged with WHDH 7-News Reporter Janet Wu and the Harvard Square Business Association (HSBA) ambassadors.

The concierge tour included visiting restaurants in the Harvard Square area including Russell House Tavern, Wagamama, Shabu Ya, Om, UpStairs on the Square, Fire + Ice, and Tommy Doyles. Lucky for us being located in the heart of the Square, we took this as an opportunity to show the concierges what we're made of!

Together with a tour around the salon, we provided 'goody' bags for each concierge. Inside each bag included a $10 gift certificate good towards any service at the salon, samples from the fantastic new product line we carry, René Futerer, and much more.

We can't wait for future opportunities such as this which enable us to interact more with our community and local businesses! And most importantly, an extra special thanks to the HSBA.

Colors were streaming through the park outside the salon today as the annual Riverfest Parade got ready to march! With their colorful costumes, masks, and people they definitely caught the attention of those passing by, and even the people in our chairs!

Faron's Tip for Sizzling Short Summer Hair

If you want an easy way to take care of of your hair and have been contemplating on whether or not to lose your length - Just do it! You will feel great to have all that weight taken off your neck and shoulders (don't forget how much easier your morning routine will be!)

Get into the swing of Summer with a cropped top that will take you from work to the beach and anywhere else you may go. Short hair is fun and very feminine (not to mention sassy and sexy!) There are tons of short and sassy haircuts that are incredibly easy to style. You can have a sleek and shiny, tousled and textured, or a cropped mane - all three equally exciting.

Summer is really meant for short hair. No more pony tails, hair blowing in your face, or scary windblown locks.

Renee's Tip for Managing Hair in the Rain

To help control the frizz in your hair throughout all of the rain and humidity this season, apply a smoothing serum such as "Glass" by Redken. It kicks up the shine and flattens the frizz. Apply a small amount to wet or dry hair and... GO!

To help add volume to fine limp hair add a volumizing product such as Redken Aerate. It has the combination of a mousse and conditioning cream so it adds body as well as protects the hair. It can give you great volume without weighing your hair down. To use this product smooth over damp hair and blowdry. You will be amazed at the volume and body you get out of this product!

Lillian's Hair Tip of the Week

Being a swimmer like myself can be hard on the hair. It can be even harder if you color it like I do. The first thing I do is wet my hair thoroughly because wet hair can't absorb as many chemicals. I also add a little After Sun Mask by Redken which also helps keep the chemicals out. Then I put a cap on. I also have color on my eyebrows so to keep them from fading I put a little Vaseline on them. After swimming I shampoo with Color Extend Sun also by Redken followed by a little more after sun mask. Many of the women swimming with me do the same thing with their hair and we all feel it's the best way to keep a swimmer's hair healthy.

To get the most formation out of your curl , use a creamer styling product for smoothness and separation. Once the product is applied, there is no need to touch it again. Never use a brush! Only use a wide tooth comb.

Cyndi's Hair Care Tip Of The Week

So we are starting something with this blog for the new year. Each week one of our 11 stylists will give their insight on hair care or style and allow you a small peak into the mind of a stylist. This week is our first tip and it comes courtesy of Cyndi.

In the winter, you may notice your hair is limp and has a tendency to fly away. To combat this you must moisturize your hair with conditioner. The conditioner will combat the static, replenish the moisture and combat the dryness. Cold air is negatively charged, as is your damaged hair. The positively charged conditioner attracts to the negatively charged hair and repairs it.

Remember the rule...shampoo the scalp and condition the ends.

Well, we are 2 days into the New Year and already things are looking positive and expectations are high for the business. Tonight we are having our "Holiday Party" at the salon with all of the fellow staff members. We will have food from The Cheesecake Factory...the chocolate cake is my favorite...and some light "adult beverages" from our neighbors at Tommy Doyle's. Every year we do a grab. You have to pick your secret Santa out of a hat and go from there...some people are much easier to buy for then others. Great food, good friends, and just plain good times all around.

We will having monthly specials and this months special for January is if you visit us for a $35 treatment, custom made just for you, it is only $20 with any service. We will be posting our salon specials on the blog site first, so those of you who are following us regularly will be the first to know. We will continue to have warm freshly made cookies along with tea/ hot cocoa.

Fashion Show At Om

So my intention with this blog was to be both informative, giving an insight into our world, and at the same time provide a platform for you to be a part of that world. So far no one has shared anything on this blog so that was one fail, and on my end i let almost a month pass between posts, which is a fail on my end. So lets all agree that I will post regularly if you all start following and posting to us. Now that we got that out of the way, lets talk fashion. Now I can tell you that a fashion show is a foriegn world to me. As they say "it was my first rodeo". All I knew was what I had seen on TV, on project runway (my ex-girlfriend made me watch it I swear). So to be standing in the salon, watching all these tall girls get hair blown up to the point where it added and extra foot to their height was quite an experience. Obviously in a situation like this, my usefullness was limitted, so I decided the best thing I could do would be to ask the models how they were doing, and if I could get them anything. At one point, after watching makeup being done on the 8th or 9th model, I was asked if I wanted any make up put on me. I have a hard time saying no in general, and I REALLY have a hard time saying no to a beautiful woman...so when two beautiful women asked me what could I say other than "yeah". So they start applying mascara, and they keep telling me how long my lashes are, and how they wish they had lashes like mine. Then they start asking other girls to look at how long my lashes are. Im not gonna lie, no one ever commented on my eye lashes before, but once the makeup was on, and I looked in the mirror, I noticed for the first time that not only are my lashes long, but they are really beautiful. Here I was, with more eye makeup than Adam Lambert, and all I could think of was "Ok, i get why women do this, cause my eyes look amazing!" Well anyway the show was a great success, mostly due to the awesome work done by our stylists, and OM did a nice job with the interior as well. Til next time.

We are almost two full days into our grand opening and things have been going very well. Aside from the unavoidable hiccup, it has been a smooth transition for both us the stylists and you the clients. We also excited to be breaking new ground as a salon, doing new things to make you more involved. We are one big family over here and your voice is very important to us. So this blog will serve two functions. First it is our way to let you know how things are going, and we each will be able to share our own personal message or messages with you. But more importantly, it serves as a platform for you to give us feedback on us and what we do. If you have a great experience here (actually, that should be WHEN you have a great experience here) this blog is your way of letting us know. With that, if you come in and notice something we could be doing better , this blog will act as an open forum to let us know what we could improve. We are here to serve you and you are the reason we all do this, so we will do our best to accommodate any suggestions you have. So please follow this blog and share with us your voice.
